The Hachimanyama Kofun(tumulus) is the center of the Wakakodama Kofungun that spreads around this area, and is estimated to be a large circular burial mound with a diameter of about 80 m built in the first half of the 7th century. It was restored and maintained in 1981.
From the stone chamber, the finest casket, such as the lacquered wooden casket, was found, and it can be inferred that the person buried was a considerable authority.
It is also called “Kanto Ishibutai” because it is a huge stone chamber comparable to the Ishibutai Kofun in Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture.
